‘We bowled well’

Calcutta: Laxmi Ratan Shukla is happy with the three points they managed against Saurashtra. The Bengal captain doesn’t wish to blame the bowlers for not forcing an outright victory.

“We bowled well… (Ashok) Dinda and Sourav (Sarkar) were outstanding… Even Shib Shankar Paul bowled well… But at the end of the day, Jaydev Shah batted superbly…

“I’m happy with the three points… Don’t forget Saurashtra were the runners-up last year and were the group toppers coming into this match,” said Man of the Match Shukla.

“We have managed to get the first innings lead in two of three matches that we played… We’re not in the back seat, but in the front seat… We’ve got to minimise the errors now….

“Letting off a Naman Ojha catch in the last match against MP also proved to be costly,” the Bengal captain said.

Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah said they didn’t have a definite strategy in mind when they walked out to chase 273.

“We decided to unfold our strategy as the match progressed… We played positively even after losing four wickets.

“Runs became difficult to come by once Bengal changed their strategy…

“They were bowling too far away from the wicket… We didn’t chase such deliveries since it could prove to be risky.”
