Hosts in command on Day 3

Guwahati, Nov. 24: Assam A lost three wickets for just one run this morning to concede an eight-run first innings lead to hosts Madhya Pradesh A which helped them gain the upper hand in the CK Nayudu Trophy under-25 plate group B match at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh today.

The home side, who posted 240 in the first innings, were 223 for four in 86 overs in the second innings at close of third day’s play in the four-day match.

Assam resumed at overnight 231 for seven to be bowled out for 232 in 94.5 overs in the first innings.

Middle order batsman Diptesh Saha, who was not out on 56, added a run to his account this morning before the wickets of tailenders Bikram Chhetry and Krishna Das at the other end tumbled for nought in quick succession to a devastating over by paceman A. Singh.

Saha (57, 10x4) was the last man out trying to play a turner from Asif Ali only to be caught by P. Sahani.

Earlier, opener Rishav Das yesterday topscored for the side with 77 (7x4) and 29 runs, comprising two boundaries, came from the bat of skipper Amit Sinha. Sunzow Brahma (23, 5x4) was another notable scorer for the side.

Singh returned with a haul of five for 54 while S. Jain and Ali took two each.

In their second innings, Madhya Pradesh suffered an early setback losing A. Khan, bowled by Mantu Das, for only six runs on the board but opener Rishabh Tiwari (17, 4x4, 1x6) and wicketkeeper-batsman V. Verma (37 (3x4, 1x6) shared a 68-run second wicket partnership to consolidate their position. Both were scalped by Chhetry.

A. Bais (47, 4x4) anchoring the innings aptly before he hit one straight back to spinner Prasanta Sonowal shortly before close today.

A. Singh and A. Shrivastava were batting on 47 (6x4) and 42 (5x4) at draw of stumps for the day.

The visitors will have to look forward to make short work of the remaining six wickets tomorrow and go for an outright victory from the match to tally four points.
