They are short in length but long in impact. As many as 20 short films were screened at Shorts 2013, a festival hosted by Calcutta-based Take5 Communications and Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence at SNTI Auditorium, on Saturday and Sunday.

They focused on a variety of social issues comprising parenting, AIDS awareness, child abuse and rape.

Some of the films shown at the event comprised Mansukh Bhai directed by Ashoke Vishwanathan; An Ode to Meher by Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar; Flash of Bullets by Sourish Dey; Casting Couch by Abhishek Ganguli; Mati Ke Mol by Shiv Kumar Prasad; Zindagi Ke Liye by Md Nizam and Banchte Holay by Kiron Mukherjee.

“Such festivals are great platforms,” said student-cum-filmmaker Nikhil Sharda, whose Only Me was screened.

Tathagata Bhattacherjee, CEO of Take5 Communications, said they were organising the festival in Jamshedpur since 2008.
