Guwahati, Nov. 22: Ulubari Higher Secondary School and South Point School registered wins in their matches of the 8th Parijat Mazumdar all Assam under-16 inter-school cricket tournament at the Latasil ground here today.
Ulubari Higher Secondary School defeated Modern English School by five wickets in the first match. Put to bat, Modern scored 86 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 15 overs, with Suresh Sharma topscoring with an unbeaten 27.
Chandan Baruah and Manu Sharma picked up two wickets each. The Ulubari boys eased past the target losing five wickets in 9.4 overs.
In the second match, South Point School registered a convincing six wicket victory over Ananda Vidya Niketan, Nalbari.
Electing to bat, Ananda Vidya Niketan were bundled out for 99. Jintu Rajbongshi scored 16 runs. Ayush Sarma was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 12 runs. In reply, South Point School got past the target losing four wickets in 17.1 overs. Abhinash Terang scored an unbeaten 28 runs.
South Point will face Assam Valley High School in the first match tomorrow, while Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti will take on Vivekanda KendriyaVidyalaya, Nalbari.
Media cricket: The Telegraph will clash with Photo Journalistsí Association in the inaugural match of the Northeast Media Sports Festivalís cricket championship at Judges Field on Sunday. Twenty teams are participating in the cricket championship.
Assam team: The office of the director of sports and youth welfare has announced a 19-member team for the 59th National School Games Swimming to be held in Pune from December 10.
