Lajong favourites

Calcutta: For the people of Shillong, Friday evening’s I-League match between Lajong FC and Rangdajied United FC (RUFC) is likely to be the biggest match in the city for a long time.

If the comparison was taken towards the hyperbolic, one could say that it will be a battle with David (Rangdajied) and Goliath (Lajong).

Lajong are the hosts for this match and will be under pressure given that they are the stronger, more experienced team, who also have a bigger backing in the hill station.

Rangdajied, on the other hand, are the underdogs. It is their first season in the I-League and they are yet to register a win, although they have drawn three games at the Nehru Stadium.

Apart from two suspensions — vice-captain Wailadmi Passah and Jibon Singh (the latter earned a red card in the last fixture against Mohun Bagan) — the other players are fit and raring to go.

The big news for Rangdajied in the last few days is the roping in of five new players, who have been taken on loan from IMG-R, including Gouramangi Singh and Subrata Paul.
