Guwahati, Oct. 31: Assam A opened their C.K. Nayudu Trophy under-25 plate group B league campaign with a seven-wicket victory for full four points against Haryana A at J.N. Singha Stadium in Goalpara today.
The visitors resumed their second innings at the overnight 135 for four and lost wickets at quick intervals to be bundled out for 159 in 82.3 overs in the pre-lunch session. Set a second innings target of 21 runs, the hosts lost three wickets in achieving the target in 10.4 overs to wrap up the day’s proceedings.
Electing to bat on Monday, the visitors were all out for 215 in the first innings and Assam rode a solid knock of 127 from skipper Amit Sinha to pile up 354 in the first innings on Wednesday.
Left-arm spinner Avoy Yadav, who scalped three wickets in the first innings, was the pick of the Assam bowlers in the second innings having hauled four for 54 to return with the match figures of seven wickets.
Off-spinner Prasanta Sonowal also picked up three for 33 in the second innings to wrap up with five scalps.
After the dismissal of overnight tandem of S. Rathi (31, 4x4) and G. Gulia (28, 4x4), who shared a partnership of 63 runs for the fifth wicket, Sonowal and Yadav ripped apart the visitors’ tail to make short work of the Haryana A second innings. R. Dagar remained unbeaten on 10.
For Assam, opener Rishav Das scored 11 in the second innings. K. Pal of Haryana picked up two wickets for 11 runs.
