Guwahati, Oct. 31: Hosts Assam emerged the unbeaten East Zone under-19 women’s cricket tournament champions, having wrapped up the league with 14 points after beating Tripura by 93 runs in the last match at NF Railway Stadium, Maligaon here today.
Bengal, who went down to Odisha by 38 runs in the last match at Nehru Stadium here today, finished the zonal runners-up with 10 points.
At Maligaon, put into bat first, the home girls posted 169 for eight in 50 overs. Their Tripura counterparts were bundled out for 76 in 36.5 overs, thanks to a scalp of three for nine by Anita Lodhi.
Anita Lodhi also topscored for Assam with 47 (5x4), sharing a 88-run second wicket partnership with R. Lodhi (37, 6x4). The Assam Cricket Association has announced a cash incentive of Rs 10,000 to every member of the team for qualifying for the national knockouts.
In the other match, Odisha elected to bat and rode a 43-run knock by S. Rath, who hammered six boundaries facing 51 balls, to be all out for 96 in 44 overs.
Saiqa Ishaque of Bengal scalped three wickets for 22 runs. Later, S. Rout, Rath and Sushree Pradhan took three wickets each for seven, six and 14 runs respectively to skittle out the Bengal girls for 58 in 34.4 overs.
Barring P. Bala (15), none of the Bengal girls could score in double figures.
Assam Police Blues, Guwahati entered the quarter-finals of the 9th CEM Cup football tournament, defeating home side Fiangpui Youth Club by a solitary goal at NL Doulagapu sports complex in Haflong today.
