Would you like to surprise your parents this Diwali by gifting them a coffee mug with their pictures on it? Are you keen to woo your girlfriend with a cool T-shirt and a poem written on it?
Step into the small makeshift kiosks that have cropped up near the arts and science block of Ranchi Women’s College where budding artists are designing personalised coffee mugs, T-shirts and plates.
“This is a Diwali offer. We have at least 20 college students dropping in every day,” said Raj, one of the artists.
On an average, each kiosk owner is earning around Rs 1,500 a day. For each imprint, they are charging something between Rs 250 and Rs 300, depending on the size of the picture, design or write-ups.
Students, naturally, are very excited.
“I have ordered for a plate that will have my picture on it,” gushed second-year history student of Ranchi Women’s College.
