Jamshedpur, Oct. 29: Former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Arjun Munda today demanded a high-level probe into the Sunday’s serial blasts in Patna during BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally.
He also lambasted the Nitish Kumar government for the security lapses.
“The serial blasts point to the complete law and order failure on the part of the Bihar government. The Centre had sounded an alert on October 23, four days prior to the rally, but the Bihar administration did not pay any heed to the intelligence inputs. We demand a high-level probe to establish the truth,” Munda said while addressing mediapersons in the steel city today.
He further said apart from Modi, senior personalities, including party chief Rajnath Singh, were at the rally and it was the responsibility of the chief minister of that state to ensure safety of visiting political leaders.
Referring to reports that the conspiracy for the Patna blasts was hatched in Ranchi, Munda criticised the Hemant Soren-led government for the worsening law and order situation in Jharkhand.
“The state government is giving protection to criminals, no wonder that the law and order has hit its nadir in Jharkhand,” the former chief minister alleged.
He continued, “The blasts indicate how criminals have regained their confidence and striking important places at will. The state machinery is not working properly.”
On issues that are directly affecting the local people, Munda said the lease agreement signed by the Tata Steel and the state government in 2005 was not being followed.
While standard of civic services provided by the company had deteriorated, people living outside the Tata command area had been deprived of basic amenities, he alleged.
“The steel company should extend civic facilities, like pure drinking water, sanitation and cleanliness services, to the areas beyond in its command too,” he said.
He also criticised Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar for taking undue credit for development in the steel city.
