Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hit out at the scheduling of his team’s League Cup match with Arsenal 48 hours after their game with Manchester City Jose Mourinho believes the fixture list has hampered Chelsea’s bid for Capital One Cup glory and handed Arsenal an advantage in the hunt for the season’s first trophy.
Coming with just a day’s rest following Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat of Manchester City, Mourinho suggested the League Cup has been denied a true spectacle between two form sides when Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates on Tuesday.
“We are going to give the game that the people that put the game on Tuesday want,” said Mourinho, who won the 2005 and 2007 League Cup during his first spell as Blues boss.
“If they want a big game, we cannot give the big game. If they want the players that were playing on Sunday, we cannot give them that. If they want Arsenal to win a trophy, that’s a help, because if they want a big game between two big teams in London, they should put the game on Wednesday and not on Tuesday.”
