Guwahati, Oct. 28: Ravikant Tiwari of Royal Group of Institutions clinched the title for the fourth time in six editions of the GTC Chess Grand Prix held at Gauhati Town Club here yesterday. Altogether 45 players participated in the sixth edition of the event played in the Grand Prix format.
In the last round of the tournament, unseeded Tiwari outwitted top seed Prachurjya Gayan to top the tally with 6.5 points while on the second board, Ashish Kumar and Tridev Buragohain signed a truce after a hard fought game to finish with 5.5 points each. Ashish finished second and Tridev fourth on the basis of tiebreak scores.
Champion of the first edition Debanga Kaushik Bhattacharyya (5.5 points) defeated Kaustav Lahiri in the last round for the third position.
Manipur archery: SAI RC bagged four gold medals on the second day of the 24th Senior State Archery Championship at Khuman Lampak sports complex today. Yaiskul Athletic Club got three gold, Assam Regimental Centre got two and National Sports Academy got one gold medal.
