A 19-year-old has alleged she was gang-raped in a room in the Girish Park area after being made unconscious in a car on Sunday.
A case has been registered against three “unknown” persons following a complaint by the woman, who works at a Lake Town nursing home.
The woman stated in the complaint lodged with Cossipore police station that she had boarded a Nano around 11am near Lake Town, seeking a drop at Ultadanga railway station, from where she was to take a train to her hometown in Murshidabad.
“She stated that apart from the driver there was another man, who was in the rear seat. Soon after she settled in the backseat, the man placed his hand near her shoulders, after which she passed out,” joint commissioner (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.
The complaint states that when she regained consciousness around 8pm, she found herself in front of three men in a room.
“She alleged that one of the men, who was sitting close to where she was lying, raped her, followed by another. After the act, she slipped out of the room telling the men that she was going to the bathroom, and realised that she had been taken to a brothel,” said a police officer.
The woman then rushed out of the building, stopped a taxi that was ferrying a passenger and asked the driver to take her to Cossipore police station, where she registered her complaint.
A team of policemen accompanied the victim to the building in Jogen Dutta Lane, in the Girish Park area, where she was allegedly raped. None of the three accused was in the building then, said an officer.
Police sources said though the victim had stated in her complaint that she was senseless from 11am to 8pm, some people had told sleuths that they had seen her with three youths at a confectionery shop in Sinthee in the evening.
“Her telephone call details show that her phone was active during this period,” said a police source.
The woman was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital for a test. “The test did not show any sign of drugging. But following her complaint, a case under sections related to gang rape, kidnapping, drugging, criminal conspiracy has been started. Investigation is on,” said Ghosh.
More than 150 people staged a roadblock near the Rifle Range Road and Bondel Road crossing for about 30 minutes on Monday after a clash between two groups over some rude remarks. They dispersed after police intervened.
