Ranchi, Oct. 27: One of the persons arrested in Patna today in connection with the serial bomb blasts at Gandhi Maidan ahead of Narendra Modi’s Hunkar Rally has a Jharkhand link, police said.
Md Imtiyaz, nabbed from Patna railway station this morning, is from Sithio village, under Dhurwa police station area of Ranchi.
“This man (Imtiyaz) has a Jharkhand connection. He is from Ranchi’s Sithio village,” DGP Rajeev Kumar told The Telegraph.
“We are verifying his background. We need to establish if he is associated with a terror group,” he added.
Police have recovered from Imtiyaz mobile phones and telephone numbers, but are not divulging details.
Intelligence Bureau (IB) team raided a couple of places late in the evening, including minority area Bhuiyantoli around 8.30pm.
At 9pm, Jharkhand police raided HEC area. SP (city) confirmed the raids. Sources said police detained two persons.
DGP Kumar also sounded a red alert in Jharkhand this evening.
Chief minister Hemant Soren termed the blasts as “unfortunate” and expressed condolences for the deceased and injured. Former chief minister and BJP veteran Arjun Munda termed it “an attack on democracy”.
