Calcutta/ Pune: Did Robin Singh feel he was still part of the East Bengal team? Might well be so…
Brought in at the start of the second half by Bangalore FC coach Ashley Westwood, he smartly nodded in a Lalrindika Ralte corner to give East Bengal the much-needed lead. For a moment or so, even the East Bengal players looked to be taken aback by Robin’s ‘contribution’.
That 49th minute ‘brilliance’ from Robin made sure East Bengal never lost control of the game. And seconds before the final whistle, James Moga finished if off in style, as East Bengal beat the toppers 2-0 in Saturday’s Airtel I-League tie at the Kalyani Stadium.
The likes of Cavin Lobo, Harmanjyot Khabra and Avishek Das made their best efforts to feed the duo with goal-bound moves, something India coach Wim Koevermans, who was present at the venue, too, observed. But Chidi and Moga’s response was such as if they had forgotten scoring.
However, Moga did make amends in the end.
In Pune, Mohun Bagan defeated Mumbai FC 1-0 to register their second win. Manish Bhargav scored the winner.
