Greater Noida: The performance of Force India has been badly hit by mid-season tyre change, the team co-owner Vijay Mallya said on Friday, ahead of his team’s home race at the BIC.
“The change of the tyres post Silverstone has been detrimental within the mechanical development of the car,” Mallya said. “Within the mechanical design of the car, it’s proving very difficult for us to get the optimum tyre performance.
“We have dedicated our research and developmental tools to the 2014 car. We are understanding the tyres and we are pleased with today’s (Friday’s) result in practice. We want to improve further in the last races,” he said.
A spate of blow outs at Silverstone prompted a mid-season tyre change, snapping Force India’s excellent run of form in the first half of the season. While the first eight races brought them 59 points, the next seven could fetch only three.
Mallya, however, was confident that his team would be able to hold on to the sixth position at the end of the season. “Hopefully, we will hang on to our 6th position in the championship.”
