TOLLYWOOD

Director Anik Dutta, along with his cast — Sreelekha Mitra, Saswata Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta — and crew, got together at The Conclave on Wednesday to talk about Dutta’s second film Ashchorjyo Prodeep, that traces the story of an unassuming, middle-class Bengali (Saswata Chatterjee) whose life changes drastically when he finds a magic lamp. Sreelekha plays a typical, middle-aged housewife who works part-time in a salon. “She is a victim of consumerism who aims for a better life. She pushes her husband to do better in life,” said Sreelekha. Dutta’s first film Bhooter Bhobishyot was a laughathon revolving around a bunch of ghosts. This time Dutta has brought in a genie (played by Rajatava Dutta) for Ashchorjyo Prodeep, which releases on November 22. “It helps to have these unreal characters. You can say a lot through them. It is safe. If you say things very directly, then it sounds a little preachy, and it can ruffle too many feathers,” smiled Dutta.

All in the family: Mainak Bhaumik has already worked with Moon Moon Sen’s elder daughter Raima Sen in Maach Mishti & More and Aami Aar Amaar Girlfriends and that the two share a great bond is known to one and all in Tollywood. Last week, Mainak shot a montage sequence for his relationship tale Family Album with Riya Sen, Moon Moon’s younger daughter and Raima’s li’ sis, and had a jolly good time! “Riya is so co-operative and easy to work with. She is so much into her character and a very good actress!” gushed Mainak. Riya’s Facebook status update: “I like the way he (Mainak) rolls.” In Family Album, Riya plays Ronodip Bose’s college friend Shreya. “Shreya belongs to a rich family, she is slightly destructive. Rono plays Swastika’s (Mukherjee) younger brother,” added Mainak. Swastika and Paoli Dam play the protagonists in Family Album.
