A 22-year-old hanged himself at his Birsanagar house, while another 20-year-old in Bagunhatu, Sidhgora, who consumed poison was saved by MGM hospital doctors on Thursday.
Dilip Sardar, a resident of Birsanagar Zone No. 5, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at 6am. The screams of his sister Savita, who first saw the body, woke up their mother Putul. As Dilip was already dead, family members called up Birsanagar police instead of taking the body to the hospital.
Birsanagar thana officer-in-charge Nand Kishore Prasad Singh said Dilip had been sleeping beside his mother till 4.30am. Then, he went to his own room and bolted the door where he ended his life.
Dilip was jobless but so far there is no clue into why he took the extreme step. “This is a case of suicide, but the deceased has not left a suicide note. We have taken a statement from his mother. Probe is on,” officer-in-charge Singh said, adding the body had been sent to MGM for post-mortem.
The survivor of a suicide attempt over a failed love affair, Shravan Lohar of B block at Bagunhatu, is undergoing treatment at MGM Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is stated to be serious.
Family members discovered the youth seriously ill in the morning and rushed him to MGM hospital’s emergency. Doctors confirmed it to be a case of poisoning.
Doctors have said that the youth lost his voice due to poison intake. His lungs needed to be treated for his voice to be restored.
Shravan, who works in a private firm, took poison after his “girlfriend” spurned him.
In 2011 Shravan had fallen in love with a minor girl, a relative said.
“In January 2012, he abducted the girl, resulting in her parents going to the police. Shravan was also jailed. Later, the parents had agreed to get them married when the girl turned 18. Three days ago, on her 18th birthday, the girl refused him outright,” the relative said.
