Calcutta: Senior pros Sourasish Lahiri and Shib Shankar Paul, along with young Monojit Ghosh, have secured berths in the squad for Bengal’s first couple of matches, against Baroda and Rajasthan, in the Ranji Trophy this season.
The senior selection committee, led by chairman Deep Dasgupta, named a squad which is a blend of youth and experience, on Wednesday. Alongside pacer Monojit, Sandipan Das and Rohan Banerjee too found a place. Subhamoy Das and off-spinner Arnab Nandy have been selected as well. Seasoned campaigner Abhishek Jhunjhunwala wasn’t considered because of poor form.
“There’s a mix of youth and experience, which does augur well for our team,” said skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla. “The youngsters can always learn from the experienced ones, which should help in getting their flaws corrected.
“I feel we have a balanced squad at our disposal. I’m sure you’ll get to see a Bengal side with a completely different mindset this time around,” he added.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla (captain), Arindam Das, Subhamoy Das, Rohan Banerjee, Wriddhiman Saha, Anustup Mazumder, Sandipan Das, Sourashish Lahiri, Monojit Ghosh, Ashok Dinda, Shib Shankar Paul, Iresh Saxena, Sourav Sarkar, Arnab Nandy, Shreevats Goswami. Stand bye: Sourav Mondal.
