Nagaon, Oct. 22: Fiangpui Youth Club handed a 5-3 defeat to Warriors of Waimijing in a first round match of the 9th CEM Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dima Hasao Sports Association, at NL Daolagupu sports complex in Haflong today.
Waimijing led 3-1 till the end of the first half, but the Fiangpui side came back strongly in the second session to clinch the thumping victory for themselves.
Waimijing skipper Debojyoti Johori drew first blood as early as the first minute and continued to dominate the proceedings midway through the first half.
Fiangpui striker Ramphara Biate made no mistake in converting a penalty kick to restore parity in the 30th minute.
A pass from Johori helped midfielder Longbir Kathar to help Waimijing take the lead again in the 37th minute.
Kathar struck again a minute later to make in 3-1 for the Warriors.
Trailing by two goals into the second session, Fiangpui forward David reduced the margin with a goal in the 57th minute and Baite equalised once again with a 72nd minute goal. The parity was shortlived as right winger Vantea put Fiangpui ahead only a minute later.
Substitute Zairema consolidated the lead for Fiangpui in the 84th minute.
Home team Flourish Youth Club will meet Sngilumlang Club, Umrangso in the next first round match tomorrow.
