Guwahati, Oct. 21: Assam and Odisha today earned two points each from their abandoned Vinoo Mankad Trophy East Zone under-19 boys’ cricket tournament match in Calcutta.
After yesterday’s seven-run victory against Tripura, Assam’s today’s outing against Odisha was called off without a ball being played because of inclement weather.
On Sunday, an all-round show by Rajjakuddin Ahmed helped Assam clinch the convincing victory against Tripura. Put in to bat first at the Eden Gardens, Ahmed’s unbeaten 77 (4x8, 6x4) off only 40 balls spurred Assam to a decent total of 258 for seven. Later, the Tripura batsmen were bowled out for 251 in 48.5 overs. The opening tandem of Urooz Rizvi (40, 4x4) and Yatin Malik (48, 4x6, 6x1) gave Assam a solid start but the side witnessed a middle order collapse before Biku Borgohain came to the rescue with a 25-run knock.
V. Saha of Tripura accounted for three wickets for 41 runs and C. Paul picked up two for 56.
