Nagaon, Oct. 20: Home side Kukisthan Youth club shocked last year’s semi-finalist Evergreen Club 6-5 via tiebreakers in the inaugural match of the 9th Chief Executive Member Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dima Hasao Sports Association, at NL Daulagupu sports complex in Haflong today.
The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of scheduled time.
Kukisthan right winger Albert Khawbung, whose sure shot in the fifth minute was well saved by Evergreen glovesman Bhaben L., made best use of a pass from Satkai Haokip to draw first blood in the 19th minute.
Trailing by a solitary goal into the second half, Evergreen midfielder Nathanael intercepted the ball from Kukisthan left winger Seimang Hangna and took a spectacular long ranger from the D-box to equalise in the 51st minute.
In the tiebreakers, James Sangson, Lal Remsiem, Gabriel Chansan, Hrang Ro Thuom and George Intoate scored for Kukisthan.
In return, Rela, Abraham, Nathankel and Paul Zarzolien scored for Evergreen while Lalnunthar missed the net off his shot.
Altogether 21 teams, including defending champion 119 Territorial Army, are participating in the tournament.
Last year’s runners-up Morning Star Football Club, Diphu, pulled out of the meet in the last moment.
“We promise to make this tournament bigger with participation of more teams from outside the state and the region,” said chief executive member Debojeet Thaosen, inaugurating the flagship event.
Heaven Blue Athletic Club will meet Pangmol Youth Club, Mahur tomorrow.
