Calcutta: Coach Karim Bencharifa should have been livid with Mohun Bagan’s performance after their 1-2 loss to Sporting Clube de Goa in Saturday’s I-League Round IV tie. Instead, he is extremely upset.
With his team being winless in four matches on the trot, Bencharifa admitted that putting in his papers is at the back of his mind.
“I want to be honest and practical. If things continue this way, I might have to take a decision. It (putting in papers) could be there at the back of my mind, which is normal,” the Moroccan said.
He also took responsibility for the continuous lacklustre show on offer by his men in the ongoing I-League. “There can’t be any excuse here. “I’ve been working with this group and I take full responsibility of the failure. In fact, as long as I’m here, I have to be accountable,” he said. He added: “I know it’s only getting difficult for us from now.
“But I pity the players too. I know they are trying hard, but the chances are not being utilised. I’m very happy for someone like Ram Malik coming in and doing his bit, but youngsters shouldn’t suffer in the kind of a situation we are going through at present.”
Asked whether Okolie Odafe could return against Salgaocar SC on Wednesday, Bencharifa replied: “Hope he makes it. But we should make sure there’s not too much pressure on Odafe.”
