Shillong: Lajong FC on Saturday ended their two-match losing streak after sharing the spoils with United SC in a fifth round match of the Airtel I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here. The game ended in a 1-1.
With this draw, Lajong now have five points from as many matches, while United SC have eight from equal number of matches.
In another fifth round match of the day, Pune FC defeated defending champions Churchill Brothers 1-0 at home. English defender Calum Angus scored the winner for the victors via a brilliant free-kick in the 52nd minute.
By virtue of this win, Pune FC joined Bangalore FC and Salgaocar FC at the top of the standings with 10 points apiece.
Liberian striker Eric Brown put United SC ahead in the 48th minute, but Trinidad and Tobago recruit Cornell Glen restored parity for Lajong in the 50th minute.
The first half ended as a barren affair as both the sides struggled to link up play with the forward lines.
Even though Lajong had most of the ball possession, they could create very few chances in front of the goal.
Lajong had started the match on a strong note, earning a free-kick outside the box in the fourth minute. But Boithang Haokip’s shot went wide.
United SC looked sloppy without their Dutch coach Eelco Schatorrie in the dugout.
