Guwahati, Oct. 18: Assam Accountant-General (AG) XI failed to make it into the final of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department East Zone Cricket Tournament as they went down to their Odisha counterparts by 77 runs in the semi-final at Nehru Stadium here today.
Odisha, put to bat, were restricted to 208 in 39.1 overs. P.R. Sinha topscored with 64 runs off 91 balls while Govind Poddar contributed 46 runs off 60 deliveries. Arvind Singh made 28 off 19 balls.
For Assam, pacer Sujoy Tarafdar and Dhiraj Kumar Singh scalped three wickets each. The hosts faltered in their chase to be bundled out for 131 in 31.3 overs. Nitin Das scored 35 runs off 50 deliveries. For Odisha, Basant Mohanty and Sumitosh Praharaj picked up three wickets each. P.R. Sinha was adjudged the Man of the Match.
In the other semi-final played at Judges Field, Bengal AG XI stormed into the final defeating their Bihar counterparts by 125 runs.
Put to bat, the Bengal side piled up a mammoth 274 for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 40 overs. Opener Amitava Chakraborty top-scored with a quick-fire 75 off 77 deliveries while Deep Chatterji chipped in with 58 off 50 balls. Gitimoy Basu and Sourav Mondal were the other notable scorers with 28 runs each. For Bihar, Ashish Kumar and Shaber Hussain picked up three scalps each.
Chasing a stiff target, Bihar AG XI were bundled out for 149 in 26.1 overs. D.R. Khan contributed 50 off 30 balls while S.D. Patra scored 37 runs off 36 balls. Bengalís Arup Trepathi was the wrecker-in chief with five wickets while Saurav Mandal scalped three.
Amitava was named Man of the Match.
