A group of 30 villagers lynched two youths at Pichhli village in Potka police station area, about 15km from Jamshedpur, on Thursday for allegedly trying to steal goats.
A teenager, who was accompanying the duo, was also beaten up. He has been admitted to MGM hospital.
The incident took place in the small hours when Deepak, Joya, both in their mid-20s, and Sonu (17) went to the village on a bike, allegedly to steal goats.
According to sources, as soon as the trio entered a house and tried to lift a goat, the villagers attacked them with lathis and iron rods. Deepak and Joya died on the spot within 15 minutes. Sonu was rushed to hospital.
Sources claimed the residents had formed a team to keep vigil at night after several goats went missing from the village in the past one month.
