Kokrajhar, Oct. 16: Barhungkha Sports Club, Kokrajhar began their campaign on a winning note, edging past Salbagan Sports Club, Gossaigaon 6-5 via tie-breaker. They moved into the next round of the 16th Daoharu Mungkhlong Trophy football tournament that got under way today at Dotma sports ground in Kokrajhar.
Barhungkha Club struck first blood in the 13th minute when Nijam Basumatary made no mistake to get one past the Salbagan custodian.
Salbagan, however, came back to draw parity in the 78th minute, with Karma Narzary striking the net.
There were no more goals during regulation time with the score locked 1-1.
In the tie-breaker, Barhungkha held their nerves better to win by 6-5 goals.
Earlier, BTC executive member Mono Kumar Brahma inaugurated the meet.
Tomorrow, Sanswrang Club, Serfanguri will play Ferenga Sports Club, Bijni.
Among those taking part in the event are Food Corporation of India, Guwahati, City Police, Guwahati, Green Valley Sports Club Guwahati, Cooch Behar Municipality, Bengal and Morigaon Football Club.
The meet is being organised in memory of the martyrs of the Bodoland movement.
The champions will bag a cash prize of Rs 50, 000 while the runners-up will be richer by Rs 25,000.
The final is scheduled for October 25.
