New Delhi, Oct. 16 (PTI): The Election Commission today slapped a notice on Madhya Pradesh industries minister Kailash Vijayvargiya for “contemptuous” remarks on the model code of conduct that is in force in the poll-bound state.
“Keep such a model code of conduct with you. I don’t care much about such a model code. I told the Election Commission to do whatever they want. I reject such a model code of conduct,” the BJP minister is reported to have said at a programme in Bhopal on Monday.
Taking cognisance of the purported remarks, the poll panel said in its notice that Vijayvargiya had shown “utter disrespect and disregard” for the code and asked him to explain why action should not be taken against him.
The minister has time till 5pm on October 18 to respond.
The model code for five poll-bound states was announced on October 4.
Vijayvargiya has also been accused of distributing money to drum players during the Chunri Yatra on October 11, a violation of the code.
