Oct. 16: Mamata Banerjee today held the Jharkhand government and the DVC responsible for the “man-made” flood in four districts that has affected nearly 10 lakh people.
“The DVC did not inform us before releasing such a large volume of water yesterday,” the chief minister said.
While visiting a relief camp in West Midnapore, Mamata also criticised the Jharkhand government.
“The Jharkhand government did not listen to us though we had requested them not to release water all of a sudden,” the chief minister said.
“I feel this is completely man-made, not a natural disaster. The Jharkhand government is responsible for this…. The DVC also did not share information before releasing such a huge volume of water.”
The DVC denied the charges. “We have been in touch with the district authorities regarding the release of water,” DVC chairman R.N. Sen said.
