According to witnesses, a gang of more than 20 raided the three-storey house of Sasadhar Ghosh at Suryapur, under the Bhadur gram panchayat, around 1am today. They came in a pick-up van.
“Repeated calls to Goghat police station went unanswered. The armed robbers beat us up and threatened to kill us. We managed to contact one of our relatives in Lalbazar, who informed Kotulpur police station in adjoining Bankura district, 30km away,” Sasadhar said.
He said the police team that arrived from Kotulpur around 3am contacted the officer in charge of Goghat police station over his cellphone. Then a large police team arrived.
The robbers took away 40 bhori (about 440gm) of gold ornaments, six cellphones, two ATM cards and Rs 1 lakh in cash.
The robbers then entered the house of Sasadhar’s brother, Ajit. Ajit fired from his licensed gun.
