Mamata Banerjee and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee
Calcutta, Oct. 15: Mamata Banerjee has reached out to her political opponents in Bengal, including Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, wishing them Subha Vijaya.
Besides former chief minister Bhattacharjee, Left Front chairman Biman Bose and state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya also received letters from Mamata, sources said.
“The letters to Bose and Bhattacharjee were delivered to the CPM state headquarters at 33 Alimuddin Street,” a source said.
The greetings were sent under the chief minister’s official letterhead. Last time, Mamata had sent cards she had designed.
The Vijaya greetings started reaching politicians and businessmen from last evening.
“Aapni aapnaar paribar ke saradiyar priti shubhechchha janai. Aapni sustho thakun, anek anek bhalo thakun (Wishing you and your family heartiest Puja greetings. May you be hale and hearty),” the message signed by Mamata read.
The letter also quotes a line from a Tagore song: “Bhore jokhon akash jure, bajbe bina sonar sure, ami jeno na roi dure, ei diyo mor maan (When the morning sky is filled with the golden tune of the Veena, may I not be far away, give me this honour).”
The letters in Bengali were addressed to the individuals and made no mention of their position in their parties.
“Mamatadi has always been courteous with Opposition leaders. This is not the first time she has wished other leaders Subha Vijaya. We have political differences but during the festive season, the feel is different,” a Trinamul minister close to Mamata said.
State Congress chief Bhattacharya replied to the chief minister’s letter. “I have also wished her Subha Vijaya,” he said.
According to sources, Forward Bloc and RSP leaders who received Mamata’s letters replied. The sources added that the CPM leaders were yet to do so.
In a Facebook post, Mamata wished all Subha Vijaya.
