Calcutta: East Bengal coach Marcos Falopa feels the comprehensive 4-0 win over Lajong FC has given a big boost to the team’s confidence.
“This win has given us a big boost before the AFC Cup return leg match against Kuwait SC,” the Brazilian said after the team’s arrival at the city airport, on Thursday.
“We are playing very good football right now. But still a lot of work is to be done. I hope we continue with the good work,” he added.
Falopa got a bit irritated when asked to comment on his decision to travel to Shillong with out five top players.
“I have 30 players at my disposal. And all of them are very good. So I do not know why the media is still asking about those five players,” he said.
Falopa singled out Subodh Kumar for special praise. “He played exceptionally well. But others also were very good,” he said.
Subodh though was modest. “I just did my job. Everyone contributed to the team’s cause. In East Bengal we work as a bunch,” he said.
“I am happy to contribute against a team we didn’t have a good record till yesterday. Now that the monkey is off our back, I think now we can concentrate on the AFC Cup return-leg tie.
“I am not bothered much about how match time I would be getting in the future. Mehtab is our captain and obviously the first choice in that position (the defensive hole). But whenever I get a chance I would try to give my best,” he said.
James Moga, who netted a brace and was adjudged the Man of the Match, said the real battle would be on October 22. “That’s the day we have to perform. If we enter final that would be a historic achievement.”
