Divisional rail management of Dhanbad has initiated a number of steps to tackle passenger rush during the festive season that begins with Durga Puja and ends with Chhath.
Additional coaches will be added to three trains to accommodate the flood of passengers. These trains are Ganga-Damodar Express, Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express and Ganga-Sutlej Express, all of which start from Dhanbad.
“Up to three coaches can be added to these trains depending on the rush,” said Dhanbad’s senior divisional commercial manager Dayanand. He added that personnel of railway’s commercial division and Railway Protection Force would supervise crowd management at Dhanbad station from Thursday.
“Officers posted at the station will ensure proper announcement of train timings and disperse crowd from station premises. They will also make sure that passenger amenities like drinking water, enquiry and ticket counters function seamlessly,” he added.
The official further said that surprise checking of reservation counters would be conducted to avoid mismanagement.
“We have already introduced queue management system at reservation counters. Ticket seekers can now procure a computer generated number and wait for their turn. They can also leave the premises and return later,” said Dayanand. He added that the system would remain functional even after the festive season.
Senior commandant of Dhanbad division Sashi Kumar said besides escort party in trains, RPF personnel in plain clothes would be deputed at the station to keep an eye on mischief mongers.
