Udita, Survey Park
The Survey Park complex has been celebrating Puja for the last 13 years.
Highlights of Puja last year: Antakshari on Saptami, dance drama on Ashtami and a Bengali play on Navami. Hand in Hand events like Sit ’n’ Draw and Ms Beautiful Hair were a hit.
Highlights of Puja this year: The idol is traditional daaker saaj from Howrah. The Devi’s weapons and some ornaments have been donated by different residents.
Community feast: Every day for lunch, there is a traditional vegetarian Bengali thali. Dinner on Sashthi will have Mughlai food like biryani, chaanp and shahi tukra. “More than 2,000 residents eat together on Ashtami,” said Anusuya Bhaduri, vice president, puja committee.
Kali Puja/ Diwali plans: The residents will organise a fireworks display and indulge in a vegetarian spread for dinner.
Silver Spring, JBS Haldane Avenue
It’s the sixth year of Puja for residents of 650 apartments.
Highlights of Puja last year: Year 2012 marked the first year of Silver Spring’s association with Hand In Hand. A quiz contest called Kaun Banega Mobilepati, on the lines of Kaun Banega Crorepati, was a hit.
Highlights of Puja this year: This year, the idol has a “ghoroa (homely) style with sholar kaaj”.
Community feast: For Dashami, a traditional Bengali thali has been planned with khichuri, begun bhaja, labra and chutney on the menu.
Kali Puja/ Diwali plans: A special two-hour-long fireworks show has been planned with ‘Raavan Dahan’.
Uniworld City, New Town
It’s the second year of Puja for residents of 700 flats.
Highlights of Puja last year: A senior citizen zone was created at the pandal. Antakshari and Ms Beautiful Face were the top Hand in Hand events.
Highlights of Puja this year: The idol is in traditional ekchala style, made by an artist from Beleghata. Events like drama, drawing competition and dance shows are on the cards.
Community feast: During the four days of Puja, residents have breakfast, lunch and dinner together, with the aim being to keep the women free from the kitchen. This year, the menu will range from Punjabi to Chinese, north Indian to traditional Bengali.
Kali Puja/Diwali plans: Cracker show, community bhog and a cultural show are being planned.
Hiland Park, Chakgaria
Residents of 650 flats will celebrate their 11th Puja together.
Highlights of Puja last year: Panchami witnessed a musical programme by the senior citizens of the complex. On Sashthi, agomoni of Durga with dance and recitations followed by dandiya were the special attractions.
Highlights of Puja this year: The idol has been bought from China Pal, one of the few women artists at Kumartuli. A musical tribute to R.D. Burman and a special Fashion Walk are on the cards.
Community feast: Ashtami will have a vegetarian menu with khichuri bhog as the prime attraction.
Kali Puja/Diwali plans: Kali Puja and Diwali is organised in a big way. Diwali plans are in the process of being firmed up.
