Chennai: Offspinner Malolan Rangarajan and Abhinav Mukund picked up five wickets between themselves, putting South Zone well on top in their Duleep Trophy quarter final tie against West Zone, at the Chepauk, on Saturday.
After South Zone declared at 600 for nine, they had West Zone in deep trouble, reducing them to 156 for six at stumps. Malolan, apart from his impressive figures of three for 50, which included the prised scalp of rival captain Wasim Jaffer, had also chipped in with a useful 58 not out.
For West Zone, Aditya Waghmode (57) and Ankit Bawne (batting on 62) were the only ones to make some contribution with the bat.
Seasoned batsman Yusuf Pathan gave away his wicket, playing an atrocious shot off the bowling of Aushik Srinivas. (AGENCIES)
