Beijing: Indians had a mixed day at the China Open here on Saturday, with Sania Mirza adding a silverware to her trophy cabinet, but Leander Paes failing to go past the semi-final round.
Sania won her second title in a row as she lifted the China Open doubles trophy with Cara Black, demolishing the challenge of Vera Dushevina and Arantxa Parra Santonja in straight sets. The eighth seeded Indo-Zimbabwean pair thrashed the Russian-Spanish combo 6-2, 6-2 in the title clash.
For Leander Paes, the day did not go as he would have hoped. Paes and Daniel Nestor’s bid to win their second title of the season together failed as they lost the semi-finals here to Italian pair of Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi. The top-seeded Indo-Canadian pair were upset 6-3, 5-7, 8-10 by their unseeded rivals in one hour and 21 minutes.
