Agartala, Oct. 5: The police department has suspended all the 15 footballers who attacked referee Shibajyoti Chakraborty and linesmen Jayanta Roy and Anup Dhar and fourth referee Bimal Patari after their team lost to local Lal Bahadur Club in the Chandra Memorial Football League at U.K. Academy ground here.
Senior police officials, including inspector-general B.K. Roy and principal of Police Training College Krishnendu Chakraborty, witnessed the incident on the field after the match and took this decision.
The police said the team would remain disbanded for two years and all 15 players and assistant manager of the team Kanailal Jadav have been suspended. None of the players who represented the police team yesterday will ever be allowed to play for them.
The TFA secretary Dilip Chakraborty expressed satisfaction over the action taken by the police and hoped that other clubs would follow suit. “From now on we will also have to take a hardline in maintaining discipline in the football field,” said Chakraborty.
