Calcutta, Oct. 5: Helen Sircar, the principal of Christ Church Girls’ High School in Dum Dum, will rejoin her duties on Monday, the Bishop of the Calcutta Diocese of the Church of North India said today.
Sources said the decision was taken today at a 90-minute meeting between the school’s managing committee, parents and a government representative.
“The headmistress will join the school on Monday. We convened an emergency meeting to review the situation at the institute,” said Reverend Ashoke Biswas, Bishop of the Calcutta Diocese and chairman of Christ Church.
Rev. Biswas added: “Education is our priority. Academics shouldn’t suffer.”
The school reopened on September 27, two weeks after it had been vandalised by guardians and outsiders on September 12 over the death of Class V student Oindrilla Das, who had allegedly been harassed by some seniors.
Sircar was arrested and spent three days in police custody before securing bail on September 16. She was granted a three-month bail extension by a Barrackpore court on September 30.
“She had asked for leave. Her leave expires on Sunday; so she will join on Monday,” Rev. Biswas said.
