Ranchi, Oct. 4: Four of the five youths, who allegedly gang-raped a 16-year-old girl in a forest in Gumla last evening, have been arrested.
The victim’s medical examination was conducted at Gumla Sadar Hospital today.
According police, the incident took place around 4.30pm when the girl and her boyfriend (20) were going to his aunt’s house in Palkot.
Five youths — aged 20-21 years — allegedly intercepted the bike on which the couple was travelling. They held the girl, a native of Lodan in Chhattisgarh, hostage and asked the boyfriend, a resident of Raidih in Gumla, to pay Rs 10,000 for her safe release.
As he rushed towards Gumla town to arrange money, the youths allegedly dragged her to nearby bushes and gang-raped her.
Meanwhile, the boyfriend informed the Gumla police.
“We received the information about 6pm. The girl was rescued within an hour or so. But, why her boyfriend did not rush to nearby Palkot police station is rather intriguing,” said SP Rakesh Bansal.
After recording the statements of the victim, police began raids and nabbed Dipak Singh, Shivjan Sahu, Surya Nageshia and Vimal Kullu — all resident of Semra village in Palkot.
Another accused Sunil Kharia is still traceless.
