Oct. 3: The Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad sabhadhipati, Pascal Minz, has filed a petition in Calcutta High Court following a Trinamul move to pass a no-confidence motion.
The seven-seat Parishad has four CPM members. The other three were Congress seats but these three members switched to Trinamul.
“When the Mahakuma Parishad polls were held in 2009, the CPM and the Congress candidates had won the seats. This was followed by a state government notification, mentioning composition of the board,” former minister and CPM leader Asok Bhattacharya said here today.
“However, now we hear that Trinamul wants to bring a no-confidence vote at the Parishad. When there is no representative of the party at the SMP, how can it bring no-confidence? There has been no gazette notification regarding the switchover of Parishad members to another party,” he said.
“It is on this issue that the sabhadhipati has filed the suit,” he said.
Jibesh Sarkar, the acting district secretary of Darjeeling CPM, said they have issued a whip among the SMP members “asking them not to attend the meeting (for the no-confidence vote) on October 7”.
