Imphal, Oct. 3: Manipur triumphed with 14-3 runs, defeating Maharashtra to claim the girls’ championship title of the 23rd National Sub-Junior Baseball Championship at Khuman Lampak sports complex today.
The Manipur girls dominated from the beginning, taking the first innings by 2-1 runs and later posted 1-0, 2-0 and 9-2 runs for the victory. For the host team, Shanta Devi fetched three runs while Kabita Devi, Karishma and Suchitra scored two runs each and Rebika, Ranjita Devi, Minakshi, Preemi, Sophia Devi got one run each.
For Maharashtra, Dhanashori scored one run in the first innings and Sayali and Shreya got a run each in the fourth innings.
In the boys’ category, Delhi thrashed Maharashtra by 10-3 runs to claim the title. Chhattisgarh took third place in both categories.

Scholarship plea: Social welfare minister Ak. Mirabai Devi has mooted an increase in financial scholarship for persons with disabilities. The social welfare minister made the statement during the closing function of 1st State Level Sports Meet 2013 for Persons with Disability at Khuman Lampak main stadium. The department is also making effort to frame a state policy for the disabled soon, she added.
