Silchar, Oct. 3: The Mizoram government will buy plots of land in Aizawl to relocate those who have lost their homes in landslides in the town.
According to officials, who attended last Tuesday’s state-level meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority in Aizawl headed by chief minister Lalthanhawla, there was a unanimous decision to buy private land to relocate the landslide-affected persons.
Seventeen people were killed in landslides at Laipuitlang locality of Aizawl in May this year.
Among the houses, which collapsed during this landslip, was a PWD housing unit.
Government architects in Aizawl said it would be impossible to build houses in that locality now. The land will either be on the plains or stable sites on the hills. However, a senior state government official today said it is difficult to find proper sites in town.
