Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched Yuvashree, a scheme where 1 lakh unemployed people between 18 and 45 years will get a monthly dole of Rs 1,500 till they get jobs. She said though resources were scarce, her government would carry on with such initiatives
Every year, 1 lakh youths will be provided the monthly allowance. Once they get jobs, new beneficiaries will be included. Every six months, the beneficiaries, enrolled with the state’s employment bank, will have to declare the mandatory skill-enhancement projects they participated in
No work is bad
Dignity of labour dominated Mamata’s address as she tried to lift the morale of unemployed youths.
“I used to give tuitions to earn money when I was a student…. The money helped fund my political activities,” she said
The chief minister asked unemployed youths not to get depressed. “If bitten by the depression bug, go out for a walk, be amidst the green, go bird-watching, listen to music or chat with children,” she said
“Sky is the limit,” Mamata said.
“Don’t run after jobs fetching Rs 5,000-Rs 6,000. You will get more than that.… You have the capability of creating lakhs of jobs and earn in lakhs,” she said
Actors Dev, Jisshu Sengupta, Soham and Abir Chatterjee shared the dais with Mamata
WHO ARE SULKING
Government employees, as the chief minister said the remainder of the 38 per cent pending dearness allowance would not be paid now.
“Some people are demanding DA. From where will I get the money? The Centre is taking away everything. We are giving salaries on time,” Mamata said.
