Calcutta / New Delhi: Trin-idad & Tobago humbled the Chennai Super Kings by nine wickets on Wednesday to clinch a semi-final berth in the CLT20 and also the top spot in Group B.
Michael Hussey’s comments about Narayanswamy Srinivasan and Gurunath Meiyappan, in his autobiography Underneath the Southern Cross, came up at the post-match media conference.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming was asked whether Hussey’s book — excerpts of which have been published in the media — was causing any embarrassment to the team. “No,” Fleming replied.
The following are excerpts
Denesh Ramdin: Winning the toss was very important for us… We opted to field because we wanted to chase. We planned it that way. The nature of the wicket was slow and it helped us restrict the CSK batsmen. But we have adapted to this wicket.
We got Hussey’s wicket pretty early and it improved our chances. Ravi Rampaul bowled really well today.
All the boys were keen to get into the semi-finals, we played to our plan and will continue to do that. This pitch suited our bowlers… That’s why we included an extra spinner today.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Our batting was not good enough today… After the eighth over, the pitch began to slow down and we lost momentum and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.
I can’t blame the bowlers. It was always going to be a tough ask for the bowlers to defend a low score like 118. But still, they could have bowled better.
We were looking to finish the group stage on a good note, but that did not happen. We are now looking forward to our semi-final match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. It will be an interesting one.
Lendl Simmons (MoM): I am happy with my performance today. It was important that we — myself and Evin Lewis — set the foundation… It was a small total. All we needed was to get ourselves set and not play too many shots straightaway.
