College students in Jamshedpur took a pledge on Wednesday to follow the teachings and profound philosophy of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The students had assembled on Loyola School premises to take part in a youth festival, Sarva Milan Yuva Mahotsav, which is organised every year on Gandhi Jayanti.
Sarva Milan, a social outfit that promotes unity among all faiths, organises this fest to highlight the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and to make college students interact culturally on one platform.
We are a group comprising students and teachers of Jamshedpur colleges. We make it a point to organise this festival every year so that we remember what Bapu taught us and can follow the same in our lives. The college students are the leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, it is very important that they choose the right path, said Father Emile Coelho, the convener of the outfit.
More than 120 students from over 10 cradles participated in various events like semi-classical group dance, group song and solo classical vocal.
The events started with the students, in the opening session, taking an oath to follow the principles of love, brotherhood and non-violence as propagated by Gandhiji.
The one-day fest saw Karim City College winning the group dance competition, followed by ABM College and XITE-Gamharia.
XITE-Gamharia, however, took the honours in group song followed by ABM and Karim City.
The solo classical was won by KMPM College, followed by Karim City and ABM colleges.
