Jaipur: Rahul Shukla took three wickets in an over before Brad Hodge hit a blistering 52 not out as Rajasthan Royals snapped Otago Volts’ 15-match winning streak with a four-wicket win in Champions League T20, here, on Tuesday.
Royals captain Rahul Dravid credited both Shukla and Hodge for the win.
The following are excerpts.
Rahul Dravid: It was a great game of cricket. There were a few nervous moments towards the end. It required that fantastic innings from Brad Hodge to take us over the line. It was really an incredible innings. We are happy that we have won the match.
I haven’t seen many people who can bat at the end like the way Brad does. He can take immense pressure. We have performed consistently. We have a lot of belief in ourselves and there is a very good environment in the team.
The unbeaten record is not important for us. What’s important is to keep the momentum going. We had in the back of our minds that if we win the semi-final, we would get an extra day off before the final. It’s nice to play the semi-final at home and then have a day off before the final.
Brendon McCullum: There are a lot of positives for us from this game. From the position we were in early on – 21 for four — I thought we did a fine job to get to 139 for seven. With the ball, we put up a great fight. The way Hodge played at the end… It was brilliant. To be honest, it didn’t take me by surprise.
Shukla really bowled a couple of good deliveries and he had a nice pace in his bowling. It took some remarkable bowling to take three wickets in one over.
Rahul Shukla (MoM): My plan was to bowl as well as I could. I also tried to stay relaxed. Dravid backs me a lot and I bowl well because of it. Looking forward to bowl more in the future. I am very happy to be a part of this unit.
