Calcutta: For over a year now, Yuvraj Singh has been an inspiration for those having cancer. But, with his latest India comeback, he should be as big an inspiration for cricketers.
Soon to be 32, Yuvraj’s determination and fierce self- belief have brought him right back to where he belongs — the India dressing room.
Late on Monday, Yuvraj sent an SMS to The Telegraph. It read: “I’m just happy... I’m looking forward to giving my best, as always.”
Incidentally, Yuvraj will be in the city on Tuesday evening for a function where Manisha Koirala (another cancer survivor) would also be present.
Yuvraj’s last India appearance was way back in January and being overlooked even for the Champions Trophy hurt. Equally, it made him hungry for a comeback.
Some six weeks in France with a physical trainer and Yuvraj was a different man fitness-wise. The rest fell in place while captaining India A against the West Indies A and leading India Blue in the Challenger Trophy.
In fact, the national selectors need to be complimented for bringing back Yuvraj at the right time. He has it in him to play a critical role in the next World Cup (2015) too.
Yuvraj, it may be recalled, was the last World Cup’s most valuable player. That was before the worst phase in his life.
