Bongaigaon, Sept. 30: The Biswajit Ray faction of All Koch-Rajbongshi Student Union (AKRSU) today called for a 36-hour Assam strike on Thursday in protest against the recent attack on Ray and demanded a CBI probe.
However, the Hiteswar Barman faction of AKRSU, which called a 100-hour Assam bandh from today, withdrew the call after a “fruitful” discussion with the Bongaigaon district administration.
A group of youths attacked Ray at Borpara in Bongaigaon town when he was going to print some documents last Friday. He suffered head injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. However, he is improving and is likely to be discharged from the hospital within the next few days.
AKRSU general secretary Pradip Ray told reporters here that there was political conspiracy behind the attack.
The attack on Biswajit came a day after he held a meeting with the BPF leadership and reportedly declared taht he did not have any objection to Bodoland state.
