Sandip claims top position

Guwahati, Sept. 30: Sandip Thapa emerged champion of champions in the 10-metre air rifle event while Gayatri Nayar won the same title in the 10-metre air pistol event in the ninth All-Assam Sports Shooting Championship, organised by the Assam Rifles and Shooting Association, that concluded at the fourth Assam Police Battalion Sports Shooting Range here on Sunday. Altogether 61 shooters from six districts participated in the annual meet.

The other gold medallists incude Hiron Konwar (10m air pistol), Subhas Thapa (10m air pistol, junior), Jyotish Pratim Konwar (10m air rifle), Sandip Thapa (10m air rifle, junior), Nayanmoni Gohain (25m centre fire pistol), Khitish Pathak (25m standard pistol), Jatin Saikia (50m 0.22 free/std rifle prone) and Bikash Thapa (50m 0.22 free/std rifle 3t) in the menís category.

In the womenís category, the gold medallists include Gyatri Nayar (10m air pistol) and Reshmi Thousen (10m air rifle).

Agreng Club, Dimakuchi today defeated Mohan Bagan Academy, Calcutta by a solitary goal to move into the next round of the 18th Bodoland Gallant Gold Cup being at Dimakuchi in Udalguri district.In a thrilling match played at the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Stadium packed to capacity the first half remained barren with both teams displaying a fine football skills.

In the sixth minute of the second half, Basanta Boro found the net for the 1-0 lead for the local club.

The Calcutta team tried to come back and even managed few chances but could not convert them into goals.

Tomorrow, Boca Junior, Meghalaya will play Sanswrang Club, Kokrajhar.
