Students appearing for matriculation and intermediate exams in February 2014 can expect error-free admit cards, something that has always been a challenge for the state.
Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), which has been steadfastly trying to streamline the student registration system since last year, has finally found a way out. It has gone hi-tech to provide an option to examinees to check their registration details online and point out mistakes, if any, and inform the school authorities. The schools, on their part, will be also able to correct the errors by simply logging into the council’s website (see chart). The institutes will be given their codes and passwords so that they can carry out the alterations.
JAC has already intimated the East Singhbhum district education department about the new system in place, which, in turn, has circulated a notice among schools. The entire process is expected to limit errors on students’ admit cards as there will be enough time to correct the same before exams begin.
The errors, which are mainly seen in name, picture, age or date of birth and even in choice of subjects, occur when registration details are reproduced on admit cards.
JAC secretary Sushil Kumar Roy said: “We tried to come up with a similar set-up last year only, but eventually could not. This step will reduce the problems faced by students.”
District education officials and schools agreed.
“Many students complain about errors in admit cards, which they receive just a few days before the exams. Instead of concentrating on studies, they rush from pillar to post to get the errors rectified. This causes harassment. However, the students will be hopefully spared that ordeal this time,” said district education officer of East Singhbhum Ashok Sharma.
“This is actually a very good practice, as students will be able to check their details themselves. However, those in rural areas might face some problems as they are not so well acquainted with computers and Internet. In that case, schools will have to take the responsibility,” said Sunita Tiwary, principal of Upgraded High School in Khukradih, located about 13km from the heart of the town.
