Jaipur: Dwayne Smith smashed an unbeaten 63 to help Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Highveld Lions by seven wickets, here, at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, on Friday, and keep their chances alive in the Champions League Twenty20.
Smith steered his side’s chase with a knock that came off just 47 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes as MI chased down the target in 18.3 overs.
The following are excerpts
Rohit Sharma: There was something in the wicket for the bowlers. It looked fresher and we used the conditions very well. It’s not easy to restrict our opposition because they are a good batting side.
But our bowlers stuck to their job and did manage to restrict them. Credit goes to our bowlers.
Thereafter, the batsmen, led by Dwayne, ensured we reached home. No wonder it was a good game for us.
(Mitchell) Johnson has bowled pretty well in our practice games.
He’s bowling really fast and it’s good to see him doing so. It’s a relief for our side.
Alviro Petersen: Mumbai Indians played very well. I think we were some 20 runs short. When we looked at the track, we were looking towards a total of 160 and looked good to get it early on. This is the sort of wicket we are used to… A wicket with more bounce and carry. It wasn’t quite like the one at the Wanderers, though, since it’s a touch slow. But having said that, it was a brilliant wicket.
Dwayne Smith (MoM): My focus was to spend time at the crease. I knew that if I’m able to do so, runs are bound to come. That’s what happened.
The surface was certainly a good one. In fact, every time I play here, the wicket has been a good one. All I need to do is be consistent with my game as consistency is the key to success.
